Reservation policy for our puppies
Our dogs are at the heart of everything we do, and placing them in the very best homes will always be our highest priority.
Breeding and showing English Toy Terriers is not only a passion but a significant and ongoing commitment. Ethical breeding involves considerable investment—health and genetic testing, specialist veterinary care, imported bloodlines, premium nutrition, equipment, whelping supplies, registration, and much more.
For many years, we have kept our puppy prices well below what is realistic. In truth, they have never come close to covering even the basic costs associated with responsible breeding—we have simply absorbed these expenses out of dedication to the breed and its future. Our pricing is therefore non-negotiable. While you may find a puppy at a bit of a lower price elsewhere, it will not be a Yurrugar puppy.
In addition to our breeding program, I work full-time outside of dogs to support these ongoing commitments. As such, the time I spend speaking with prospective puppy families is incredibly valuable. We now focus on enquiries from those who are genuinely ready to welcome a puppy into their lives.
We are unable to hold puppies while decisions are being made. Experience has shown that many who request this are not yet ready to proceed, which takes time away from those who are prepared to commit.
When puppies are available, priority is given to committed homes ready to reserve. Prior to accepting any deposit, we will always speak with you to ensure you are fully prepared for the lifelong responsibility of owning one of our dogs. Our aim has always been—and will always be—to match each puppy with the most suitable and loving home.
Thank you for your understanding and for supporting the care, integrity, and future of our breed.
Warm regards,
Paige Saunders

At Yurrugar, our primary goal is to breed beautiful, healthy, world-class English Toy Terriers
At Yurrugar, our English Toy Terrier puppies are raised with care, intention, and deep respect for the breed. From birth, puppies are nurtured in a cosy whelping box within our home, where they are part of everyday family life. As they grow, they enjoy supervised playtime in a dedicated outdoor puppy playground, while continuing to sleep indoors at night for comfort, security, and routine.
From a very early age, our puppies are gently exposed to a wide variety of experiences. They grow up alongside adult English Toy Terriers, with people coming and going, regular car rides, and the everyday sights and sounds of our property — including cats, horses, and cattle at the back fence. This thoughtful early exposure helps ensure our puppies develop into confident, well‑adjusted dogs with exceptional temperaments.
We’re often asked whether we place puppies with pet homes, and the answer is a definite yes. We warmly welcome enquiries from people seeking a pet companion. While we carefully assess each litter and always reserve any potential show prospects for ourselves first, the majority of our puppies are placed as much‑loved pets. In fact, we strongly prefer our puppies to grow up in caring family homes rather than breeding or show homes. Our focus is on producing healthy, confident English Toy Terriers who will be cherished members of their families for life.
Our preference for pet homes comes down to one thing: the wellbeing of the dogs we breed. We believe pet homes provide the stability, attention, and lifelong commitment that allow English Toy Terriers to truly thrive as family members.
If you’re “just” looking for a pet, please don’t hesitate to inquire. Being a pet home is not a lesser option — it is often our preferred one. We genuinely enjoy hearing from thoughtful people who are seeking a lifelong companion.
Placement of puppies is always done with great care. Rather than a first‑come, first‑served approach, we match puppies to homes based on temperament, lifestyle, and what will best suit both the puppy and the new owner. Our litters are often small, and on occasion there may be only one puppy available, which makes considered placement even more important.
Our primary goal at Yurrugar is to breed beautiful, healthy, world‑class English Toy Terriers. We generally retain at least one puppy from each litter to continue our show and breeding program, and any puppies we do not keep (as it’s not practical to keep them all) are offered to exceptional companion homes. Show and breeding prospects are retained by us or reserved for select international enthusiasts only.
Each Yurrugar puppy represents years of careful planning, ethical breeding, and a deep love for this rare breed. Because of this, we are highly selective when choosing homes and will always place the puppy’s long‑term wellbeing first. We would rather keep a puppy ourselves than place them in a home that is not the right fit.
If you are interested in welcoming a Yurrugar English Toy Terrier into your life, we encourage you to make contact early rather than waiting for advertisements. When puppies are available, they are offered first to those who have already inquired.

What is the difference between a “Registered Breeder” and a “Registered Breeder with Dogs Victoria”?
Yurrugar English Toy Terriers are proud members of Dogs Victoria. You may have seen breeders advertise themselves as “Registered Breeders,” but this term can be misleading. In many cases, it simply means the breeder is registered with their local council as a Domestic Animal Business, not with Dogs Victoria or another ANKC (Australian National Kennel Council) state body. As Dogs Victoria members, we are bound by strict rules, regulations, and a comprehensive Code of Ethics that governs breeding practices, animal welfare, and accountability.
The ANKC is the only Australian organisation whose dog shows and registration system are internationally recognised by canine controlling bodies worldwide. For further information, please visit the Dogs Victoria website (linked at the bottom of our Contact page).
In addition to our Dogs Victoria membership, we also hold a PER Source Number issued by Animal Welfare Victoria. This is a legal requirement for Victorian breeders and confirms compliance with state animal welfare standards.
Beyond mandatory requirements, we choose to go further than many breeders. Our breeding dogs undergo comprehensive health and genetic testing, including DNA parentage verification through Orivet. DNA parentage testing confirms the recorded lineage of each puppy and ensures the integrity and accuracy of pedigrees — something that is surprisingly not undertaken by many breeders due to the significant additional cost involved. We believe this level of transparency is essential to ethical breeding and long‑term breed preservation.
All of this comes at considerable expense. Membership fees, compliance costs, health screening, genetic testing, and DNA parentage verification add substantially to the cost of responsibly breeding English Toy Terriers. These are not optional shortcuts we are willing to take. Instead, we see them as a necessary investment in the health of our dogs, the trust of our puppy buyers, and the future of this rare breed.
Our Dogs Victoria membership number, PER Source Number, and details of genetic, health, and DNA testing for our breeding dogs are available to prospective puppy owners once a relationship has been established. We are also happy to provide references from current Yurrugar owners upon request.

THE YURRUGAR DIFFERENCE - A LEGACY IN ENGLISH TOY TERRIERS
The Yurrugar Standard. There is a reason Yurrugar puppies are priced as they are, and yes, this is often higher than some others. Ethical, world‑class breeding is not inexpensive — and our pricing reflects the remarkable depth of quality, intention, and expertise behind every puppy we produce.
While it may be possible to find a puppy for less, what cannot be replicated is the knowledge, the international collaboration, the exclusive bloodlines, and the lifelong commitment that define the Yurrugar name. When you welcome a Yurrugar puppy into your home, you are investing in exceptional genetics, responsible breeding, and confidence that lasts a lifetime.
We are recognised as one of the leading English Toy Terrier breeders globally, not because of volume, but because of quality, consistency, and integrity. Every decision is guided by the long‑term health, temperament, and preservation of the breed.
Our puppies are the result of:
We do not breed for convenience, trends, or profit. We breed to protect the breed, to improve it, and to produce exceptional companions who thrive for many years.
Exclusive Bloodlines — A Yurrugar Signature. Yurrugar has invested heavily in exclusive international bloodlines that do not exist within the mainstream Australian English Toy Terrier population. These lines were purposefully sourced for their correctness, and genetic strength — preserving true breed type and traits that are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Importing and maintaining these lines requires:
These bloodlines are not widely available, nor are they ever used casually. Each pairing at Yurrugar is planned with precision, intention, and a vision for the future of the breed.
As a result, Yurrugar puppies represent genetics, type, and quality that simply cannot be reproduced within the standard Australian gene pool.
In Essence
Yurrugar puppies are not like any others in this country.
They cannot be replicated.
They are the result of decades of expertise, global bloodlines, uncompromising standards, and a lifelong commitment to excellence.
A Yurrugar puppy is not merely purchased.
It is entrusted.

AND FINALLY
A word about visits
We understand how special it is to meet puppies in person. However, we have firm policies around visits to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of our puppies and to maintain the calm environment they need to thrive.
Health & Bio‑Security Come First
This policy is in place to protect the puppies’ health, safety, and early development. Young puppies have extremely immature immune systems. Before their first vaccination (which occurs at around 7 weeks), they are especially vulnerable to viruses and bacteria that can be unknowingly carried in on clothing, shoes, or hands—particularly by anyone who has recently been around other dogs, breeders, grooming salons, or dog parks. For these reasons, no visits are permitted before vaccination.
Calm, Controlled Early Development
Our litters are raised in a stable and carefully managed environment. Unnecessary foot traffic or casual visits can overstimulate or unsettle young puppies, which is not in their best developmental interests.
No Obligation to Continue if It’s Not the Right Fit
If you decide that you really need to visit once the first vaccination has taken place and, for any reason, feel that continuing isn’t the right choice for you, there is absolutely no obligation to proceed with the placement. We want every home to feel confident and excited—not pressured. Likewise, we also need to feel completely comfortable with where our puppies are going. Our responsibility is to place each puppy in a home we trust and believe will be an excellent long‑term match.
Respect for Our Dogs, Our Time, and Our Program
We don’t offer “just looking” visits. A well‑managed breeding program involves significant time, cost, and emotional investment, and our home and dogs are not open for casual viewings. We reserve access for people genuinely preparing to welcome a puppy into their home.
Transparent Without Compromise
We completely understand that meeting puppies in person is something many people would love to do, and we genuinely appreciate your understanding. We’re always more than happy to support you in other ways:
A Family Home, Not a Commercial Kennel
It’s important to remember that our dogs and puppies are raised in our family home—not a commercial facility open to the public. Inviting people into our private space requires trust, respect, and a genuine purpose. For safety, security, and personal privacy, we only welcome visitors who are truly committed, have been in communication with us, and are actively moving through the placement process. This allows us to maintain a safe, respectful environment for our puppies, our dogs, and our family.
If our approach doesn’t suit your needs, we completely understand and wish you all the best in finding the right breeder for you. Thank you so much for respecting how we do things.
